Augmentation
OperationsAlso known as: Battery Augmentation, Capacity Augmentation
Augmentation is the process of installing additional battery modules or containers into an existing BESS plant to restore capacity lost through degradation. It ensures the plant continues to meet its contracted energy capacity and availability obligations over its full operational life.
Augmentation is typically planned from the outset and built into project financial models. It may occur once or multiple times over a 15–25 year asset life. The timing and cost of augmentation depends on the degradation curve, battery pricing trends, and contractual requirements.
