BMS

Controls

Also known as: Battery Management Unit

A Battery Management System (BMS) is the electronic control system that monitors the state of every battery cell within a DC block or AC block. It tracks cell voltage, temperature, current, state of charge (SOC), and state of health (SOH), and protects the cells from operating outside safe limits. The BMS performs cell balancing (equalizing charge across cells), thermal management coordination, and fault detection. It communicates with higher-level controllers (the plant controller or EMS) to report battery status and enforce operational limits. BMS quality directly affects battery safety, longevity, and warranty compliance.
