EMS
ControlsAlso known as: Energy Management Platform, Dispatch Optimisation System
An Energy Management System (EMS) is the software platform that manages the commercial operation of a BESS plant. It decides when to charge, when to discharge, and which market services to provide, based on electricity prices, grid signals, forecasts, and contractual obligations.
The EMS sits above the plant controller in the control hierarchy. It handles dispatch optimisation, revenue stacking across multiple markets, and reporting. Some EMS platforms also incorporate AI-based forecasting for price and demand prediction. The EMS is typically provided by the system integrator, a third-party software company, or the RTM provider.
