Grid Code

Regulation

Also known as: Grid Connection Code, Grid Requirements

Grid codes are the technical requirements set by grid operators (TSOs and DSOs) that define how generation and storage assets must behave when connected to the electricity grid. They cover power quality, fault ride-through, frequency response, voltage regulation, reactive power capability, protection settings, and communication protocols. Compliance with grid codes is mandatory for grid connection and is verified during commissioning through a series of tests. Non-compliance can result in delays, penalties, or refusal of grid connection. Grid codes vary by country and sometimes by region, and they are regularly updated as grids evolve.
