PCS
EquipmentAlso known as: Inverter, Battery Inverter, Bidirectional Inverter
A Power Conversion System (PCS) is a bidirectional inverter that converts energy between DC (stored in batteries) and AC (used by the grid). It controls active power, reactive power, voltage, and frequency during both charging and discharging.
In a BESS plant, the PCS sits between the DC blocks and the grid-side transformer. PCS units can be standalone (producing low-voltage AC at 690V) or integrated into a skid with a medium-voltage transformer (PCS + MV Skid). Key performance metrics include round-trip efficiency, response time, and power rating (kW or MW).
