Revenue Stacking
CommercialAlso known as: Value Stacking, Multi-Market Optimisation
Revenue stacking is the strategy of participating in multiple energy markets and services simultaneously or sequentially to maximise a BESS asset's total revenue. Rather than relying on a single income source, operators combine frequency regulation, energy arbitrage, capacity payments, and other grid services.
Effective revenue stacking requires sophisticated trading software and market access. Route-to-Market (RTM) providers typically handle this, using algorithms to dynamically allocate the battery's capacity across the most profitable markets at any given time. Revenue stacking is central to BESS project economics and bankability.
