A Route-to-Market (RTM) provider is the commercial operator that connects a BESS plant to electricity markets and handles energy trading on behalf of the asset owner. RTM providers manage market registrations, execute dispatch strategies, optimise revenue stacking, and handle settlement with grid operators and exchanges.
The RTM provider is critical to project economics — the same battery can earn significantly different revenues depending on the quality of trading and market access. RTM agreements typically involve a management fee or revenue share. In the Nordics, established RTM providers include companies like Checkwatt and Flower.
