Curtailment

Grid

Ook bekend als: Renewable Curtailment, Generation Curtailment

Curtailment is the forced reduction of electricity output from a power plant — typically a wind or solar farm — because the grid cannot absorb all the energy being generated. It occurs when supply exceeds demand and there is insufficient transmission capacity or storage to handle the surplus. Curtailment represents wasted energy and lost revenue for renewable generators. BESS helps solve this by absorbing surplus renewable energy during curtailment periods and discharging it later when demand is higher. Reducing curtailment is one of the key economic drivers for co-locating BESS with renewable generation projects.
