Frequency Regulation

Commercial

又称: FCR, Frequency Response, Ancillary Services

Frequency regulation is a grid balancing service where resources like BESS respond to deviations in grid frequency by injecting power (when frequency drops) or absorbing power (when frequency rises). The goal is to maintain frequency at its nominal value — 50 Hz in Europe, 60 Hz in North America. BESS is exceptionally well-suited for frequency regulation because it can respond in milliseconds. Grid operators procure these services through auctions. Products include containment reserves (fast response to arrest deviations) and restoration reserves (slower response to return frequency to normal). Frequency regulation has historically been a primary revenue stream for BESS projects.
